Head of a functional unit within the General Medicine Department for Metabolic Health and Ageing at IRCCS San Raffaele Hospital in Milan, where he works as an internist, diabetologist and endocrinologist.
He spent three years as a researcher at the Joslin Diabetes Center of Harvard University and was adjunct associate professor in the Diabetes Division of the University of Texas. With Prof. Camillo Ricordi he took part in the first pancreatic islet transplant in a patient with type 1 diabetes. He has authored and co-authored 90 scientific publications and book chapters.
He diagnoses, treats and follows up all forms of diabetes and metabolic and endocrine diseases, using clinical protocols for metabolic health based on reducing visceral fat and restoring insulin sensitivity.
