A specialist in Haematology with honours, he has worked since 1985 at Fondazione IRCCS Ca’ Granda Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico in Milan, where he headed the Coagulation Pathophysiology Unit.
His work focuses on thrombosis, haemostasis and anticoagulant therapy. He has served as vice-president and president of the Italian Federation of Anticoagulation Clinics (FCSA) and as a member of the Executive Committee of the Italian Society for the Study of Haemostasis and Thrombosis (SISET).
He carried out research as a visiting investigator at Utrecht University and has authored more than 450 publications, including in the New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet and Blood.
