A specialist in Liver and Metabolic Diseases, he worked in internal medicine at the Third Medical Clinic of the University of Milan, developing particular expertise in the management of patients with liver cirrhosis, hepatic encephalopathy and ascites, and taking part in the first Italian experience of treating portal hypertension with TIPS.

He worked for many years as a general practitioner in Milan and has long experience as medical director of private healthcare facilities.
