Head of the Aortic Surgery Unit within the Cardiac Surgery Department of IRCCS San Raffaele Hospital in Milan, where he has worked since 1997, and lecturer at the Cardiac Surgery Specialisation School of Vita-Salute San Raffaele University.

He specialises in aortic and mitral valve surgery and diseases of the aorta, using surgical, hybrid and transcatheter approaches in collaboration with interventional cardiology and vascular surgery. He was the cardiac surgery lead of San Raffaele’s TAVI programme.

He has been principal investigator in numerous studies in Italy and abroad and contributed to the development of miniaturised extracorporeal circulation for aortic valve replacement.
