A rheumatologist, he spent his career at the University of Milan, where he was a researcher and then associate professor of Rheumatology, and directed the Rheumatology Specialisation School from 2015 to 2019.

He headed the University Rheumatology Unit at Istituto Ortopedico Galeazzi IRCCS and the Allergology, Immunology and Rheumatology Unit at Istituto Auxologico Italiano IRCCS. He is also a specialist in Clinical and Laboratory Haematology and in Infectious Diseases; his scientific output includes more than 200 contributions, 90 of them in peer-reviewed journals.
